OCCURSO
Institute for interreligious
and intercultural encounter
Welcome to the homepage of OCCURSO.
The institute was established as a registered NGO in January 2008.
The vision and aim of OCCURSO
(lat. encounter, to meet) is to foster and encourage interreligious and intercultural
dialogue and encounter. OCCURSO focuses on the study of dialogue and learning
processes involved as well as education and encouragement for dialogue of
different cultures and traditions.
To put this into practice, OCCURSO
intends to work together with partners in the area of churches and other
religious bodies as well as academic organizations.
The Abbey of St. Ottilien, a
Benedictine Monastery west of Munich, is our host.
The institute is not a body of
a church or religious organization, but works together with them as partners
and members. Theological work done by the institute is therefore multiple,
depending on the religious tradition of the author.
Religious studies and theology
will work together in order to understand all aspects of interreligious and
intercultural learning processes and other aspects of dialogue.
The first study project of OCCURSO
is on “interreligious learning in Christian-Muslim dialogue”, which we hope
to carry out 2008-2012. It involves qualitative research of Christian and
Muslim communities in Germany (Munich area) and Turkey (Antakya area). Participating
communities will undertake different dialogue initiatives. The result of
this initiative on the relationship between Muslims and Christians as well
as their individual processes of learning will be analyzed. Here religious
studies and theology (Christian and Muslim) will work together.
To secure the financial basis
of our work, we are currently looking for sponsors in order to build up a
trust.
If you are interested to become
a member or a partner of OCCURSO or if you want to support our work, please
contact us.
